How old do you REALLY have to be to rent a hotel room?

Question by Sydney: How old do you REALLY have to be to rent a hotel room?
My fiance is coming home from deployment next month and we will both be 19 years old when he comes home. We want to have a romantic getaway with each other but I’ve seen several hotels that say you have to be 21 to rent a hotel room. So my question is, is how old do you really have to be to rent a hotel room? Because I thought that once you turned 18 you could.

I thought it was 18, then again the first hotel I rented was when I was 24 so I don’t know.

As long as you have the money, a debit/credit card and a drivers license you should be ok.

You have to be 21. However, some hotels have exceptions if you’re married. Since you guys are engaged you might be able to rent a hotel.

Each hotel sets their own policy…even hotels in the same chain sometimes have different requirements. You simply have to call the hotel you want to use and ask.

It depends a lot on the hotel’s policies. The best bet is to call the front desk of the hotel and simply ask, explain your situation–they might make an exception like a pp mentioned. You may also be eligible for a military discount–be sure to ask this, too!

I would definitely call and ask. The only reason I can think for needing to be 21 is that they have unlocked mini bars or something. weird. I think you’ll be able to find a nice place that isn’t picky on the age. :)

There are hotels in all cities which allows 18 year old’s to checkin . But you need to find them as most hotels age requirement is 21.
